Insurance firms may be put under purview of ombudsman

PM Shehbaz has issued instructions to Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazir Tarar to review proposal

ISLAMABAD: The federal government is seriously considering a proposal that public sector insurance companies should be taken out of the purview of the federal ombudsman and brought under the purview of the federal insurance ombudsman.

According to government sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued instructions to Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazir Tarar to review the proposal. Tarar has formed a committee to review the proposal. He will be the chairman of the 8-member committee. Other members include the federal ombudsman, federal insurance ombudsman, secretary ministry of law and justice, secretary ministry of commerce, draftsman ministry of law, a high-ranking representative of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and senior joint secretary, ministry of law, its member-cum-secretary.
