Top-order set the tone for big total, says upbeat Abdullah
ISLAMABAD: In-form Abdullah Shafique, who struck his fifth Test hundred on the opening day of the first Test against England at Multan Stadium, said his century had helped Pakistan getting off to a solid start in the three-match Test series.
In a media talk on Monday, Abdullah said the openers set the tone for the rest of the batting line-up. “I am pleased that I have played an innings that was need of the hour. Once openers start scoring, it gives big heart to the rest of the batting line-up.”
“Together with Shan Masood, we ensured putting up a big stand that eventually helped us raise a big total on the opening day.” Abdullah expressed his gratitude to team management and captain for giving him a decent run.
“I am thankful to the team management and captain for reposing trust in me. They gave me a good run which enabled me to score a century today.” Abdullah hoped to see some turn in the wicket as the game progressed.
“I am hopeful that the wicket will take turn as the match progresses. There are cracks visible on the wicket which are expected to get widened and as such would go on to help the spinners from the third day onward.” Pakistan opener said that the platform was set for a big total. “Though England came back strongly in the last session of play, we managed a good total and hopefully would carry on from here.” On hot weather in Multan, he said for professional cricketers these things are normal.
