PESHAWAR: Heavy rain coupled with thunderstorms hit the provincial capital on Saturday evening, turning the weather pleasant.

However, people faced problems as the rain flooded various roads and streets. Vehicular traffic was also halted and vehicles were found out of order at various points amid the flooded areas. The electricity supply also remained suspended for hours after the storm.

According to the Met Office, Peshawar airport received 27mm rain, Chitral 2mm, Timergara 7mm, Dir 7mm, Saidu Sharif 34mm, Malam Jaba 27mm, Takhtbhai 8mm, Kakul (Abbottabad) 9mm and Balakot received 20mm rain.

Thought rain turned the weather pleasant, it also created several issues for residents. As the rain poured down, many roads and streets across the city were quickly flooded, causing significant problems for motorists. The accumulation of water halted traffic in several areas, and many vehicles broke down due to the flooded roads, leading to traffic jams and chaos, especially in low-lying areas.

In addition to traffic disruption, power outages plagued various parts of the city, including residential neighbourhoods and cantonment areas. The electricity supply remained cut off for hours, leaving residents without power during and after the storm.

The Met Office reported rainfall from across the region with Peshawar airport recording 27mm of rain. Other areas, including Chitral, Timergara, Dir, and Malam Jaba, also experienced varying levels of rainfall, with Saidu Sharif receiving the highest at 34mm.

While the rain made the weather more pleasant, the aftermath of flooded streets, traffic disruption, and power breakdowns left Peshawar’s residents struggling with the consequences of the storm.

Many urged the government to take action to address these recurring problems, as the region may receive more rainfall in the coming days.
