LAHORE: Pakistan will face their traditional rivals India in a crucial match of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (today).
The national women’s team triumphed over Sri Lanka by 31 runs in their opening match, while India faced a defeat against New Zealand in their first game.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana expressed confidence in her team’s ability to handle the pressure. Coming off a convincing 31-run victory over Sri Lanka in their Group A opener, Pakistan aim to maintain their winning momentum. In contrast, India is looking to bounce back after a disappointing 58-run loss to New Zealand in their first match.
“There is no such pressure,” Sana told reporters at a pre-match press conference. “We will try to be calm and handle the situation as well as we can.”
The 22-year-old skipper acknowledged the potential for a charged atmosphere but emphasized the importance of staying composed.
Sana, leading Pakistan in a World Cup for the first time, demonstrated her prowess against Sri Lanka with a quick-fire 30 off 20 balls. She also showcased her versatility by stepping up with the ball when seamer Diana Baig was sidelined due to injury. Baig is expected to be fit for Sunday’s clash.
Meanwhile, India’s bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi stressed that his team has put the New Zealand defeat behind them. “On Friday, whatever happened, Sunday is a fresh opportunity for us,” Salvi said. He emphasised the importance of staying united and adhering to their game plan.
