This letter refers to the editorial ‘63A verdict’ (October 4, 2024). The question now is if this government follows through with their constitutional package, which I think remains shrouded in mystery, will this amendment have the backing of the people? I ask this because, looking back at the last general elections, with its delayed results and form 45 & 47 fiasco, there were many reservations by many quarters on the integrity of the whole process.
Many voters were not pleased with the final outcome and questions continue to surround the mandate of the incumbent government. No hectic move to amend the constitution should be encouraged at this point. There is no question that parliament is supreme, but to maintain its supremacy and sovereignty, we need representation from all parties and areas of this country in a way that is considered just and fair.
