LAHORE: Under the directive of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, Punjab Police continued its crackdown for arresting dangerous fugitives residing abroad.
In this ongoing operation, the Special Operations Cell of Punjab Police has reported arrest of a fugitive, Qamar Abbas, wanted in a murder case, from Saudi Arabia after five years. He had shot and killed a woman in the Pahrianwali area in 2019. The incident stemmed from prior disputes between the parties and a land occupation conflict. Qamar Abbas had been evading the Mandi Bahauddin police for five years. The Special Operations Cell issued a red notice for Qamar Abbas through Interpol, leading to his arrest by Saudi police, which subsequently handed him over to Punjab police at Lahore Airport. Punjab police spokesperson said that the total number of dangerous fugitives arrested from abroad this year has now reached 82. These criminals were wanted in serious cases, including robbery, murder, kidnapping, fraud etc. IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar appreciated the RPO Gujranwala and DPO Mandi Bahauddin for the successful arrest of the dangerous fugitive. He instructed that legal proceedings be completed promptly. Dr Usman Anwar further said that with the assistance of FIA and Interpol, efforts should be intensified to apprehend other dangerous fugitives, bring them back to the country, and ensure they face severe penalties in the court.
