The Sindh government has made all the preparations to assume the control of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project’s operations as the federal government is set to transfer the project to the province in December this year.

This was said in a high-level meeting in Karachi on Friday that was chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Transport and Information Sharjeel Inam Memon. Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kamal Hakeem Dayo, Trans Karachi CEO Shumaila Mohsin and others.

The participants of the meeting thoroughly reviewed the operations of the Green Line service. A discussion was also held regarding the plan to connect the Green Line with the Orange Line project.

Memon ordered swift completion of the project linking the Green Line with the Orange Line. The meeting also had discussions on the Sindh government's ongoing operations in the public transport sector, utility services and subsidies for the Green Line BRT.

The transport minister stressed that the Green Line project was a vital component of Karachi's public transport system. He confirmed that the federal government would transfer the Green Line project to the Sindh government in December 2024.

He added that the provincial government aimed to complete the project connecting the Green Line to the Orange Line before December 2024. The federal government was currently providing an annual subsidy of Rs2 billion for the operations of the Green Line, which the Sindh government would review, Memon said, adding that after the transfer of the Green Line from the federal government to the Sindh government, additional buses would be introduced to enhance the efficiency and quality of transport services for the citizens.
