LAHORE: Pakistan’s powerlifter Sybil Sohail earned a gold medal in the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship held in Sun City, South Africa.
She achieved this feat in the 47kg category of the classic bench press event. Meanwhile, her sister Veronika Sohail clinched a bronze medal in the 52kg category. The gold medal in this category was awarded to an English powerlifter, while an Indian lifter won the silver medal.
The event, scheduled from October 4 to 13, features participation from 15 Commonwealth nations. The three-member team from Pakistan comprises sisters Sybil, Veronika, and Twinkle Sohail.
Pakistan’s gold medallist, Muhammad Nooh Dastagir Butt, will participate in the Men’s Commonwealth powerlifting championship. Hasnain Raza Haider Ali and Dr. Adnan will compete in various masters categories. These lifters are set to embark on their journey to South Africa on Sunday (tomorrow).
