FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad remained a centre for attraction for the people and farming community on the third day of the ongoing Kisan Mela.
UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan inaugurated the fancy bird show, tent pegging competition, nutrition festival and art and literature festival on the third day of the Kisan Mela.
Convener Kisan Mela Organising Committee Dr Riaz Virk, Dean Animal Husbandry Dr Qamar Bilal, Dean Food Sciences Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Director General National Institute of Food Science Dr Imran Pasha, Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications Dr Muhammad Jalal Arif, Senior Tutor Dr Shaukat Ali, Dr Fawad Ahmad, Dr Urfa Bin Tahir and Deputy Director Endowment Fund Dr Rana Amir along with a large number of teachers and students attended the events.
Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the Kisan Mela had been a tradition of the university in which the farmers, policymakers, agricultural scientists and other people from other sectors were provided a platform to play their role for food security and profitable agriculture and share wisdom.
He said that we had to harmonise our life with nature so that not only our ecosystem could improve, but also control all health problems. He said that more than a thousand of horse riders were participating. He said that arts and crafts created a space to create happiness.
Hundreds of species of birds had been decorated in the fancy bird show, which attracted the visitors. In the Nutrition Festival, the students established various food stalls.Convener Dr Riaz Virk said that on October 4, the farmers convention, tent pegging final competition, photography and videography and poster contests would be organised while on October 5, photo exhibition, mares competition, kabaddi and greyhound race would be organised. He said that the series of various events under the Kisan Mela would continue till October 9.
MAN GETS DEATH ON TWO COUNTS: FAISALABAD: Additional Sessions Judge Rao Mubashir sentenced a man to death on two counts for the murder of his wife and father-in-law in Madina Town.
According to the prosecution, convict Usman Masih along with his three accomplices Zeeshan Masih, Akash Masih and an unidentified man killed his wife Fiza Bibi and her father Shamoon Masih following a domestic dispute on August 19, 2022, at Chak 204/RB. After reviewing the evidences and witness statements, the judge sentenced Usman Masih to death under Section 302-B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for the double murder. Additionally, the convict was ordered to pay Rs 500,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of the victims, as per Section 544-A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Failure to pay would result in an additional six-month imprisonment. However, the three accomplices were exonerated by the police during the investigation.
BODY ASSAULTED: Two men assaulted a 17-year-old boy, filmed the incident and blackmailed him for a year at Chak 98/GB in the jurisdiction of Jaranwala Sadr police limits.According to the police, last year, accused Adil and Adeel took 17-year-old Asad to a farmhouse where they assaulted him and filmed the incident. They then blackmailed him by threatening to leak the video on social media and extorted money from him. The police have registered separate cases against both accused.
POLICEMAN GUNNED DOWN BY DACOITS: Robbers gunned down a policeman during a robbery attempt in Gulberg police limits.According to the police, 35-year-old Nadeem, a resident of Mohallah Anandpura and currently serving at Rescue 15, was returning home from duty at around 6am when the robbers attempted to loot him near Bari 89. When Nadeem resisted, the robbers shot him. As a result, he was injured seriously. He was taken to a hospital where he died. The CPO has formed special teams, led by SSP Operations, to apprehend the culprits.
