SSP Hyderabad served notice on plea of woman against her husband’s arrest

The Sindh High Court issued notices to the provincial law officer, the SSP Hyderabad and others on Saturday on a petition filed by a woman against arrest of her husband after a “fake police encounter”.
Suneta, the petitioner, submitted that her spouse, Dr Ashoke Raj, was a psychiatrist and running a private clinic in Karachi.
Her husband went to Hyderabad on April 10 to meet his friend where police injured him in a “fake encounter” and declared him a robber named Sharif Panhwar.
She submitted that when she approached the police and provided them information about her husband, they insisted that her spouse was a robber and injured in an encounter in Hyderabad.
The court was informed that the leg of the petitioner’s spouse was amputated because of the lack of medical treatment and he was now shifted to Karachi for treatment.
She submitted that police was not accepting the identity card of her spouse and threatened her of dire consequences.
She requested the court to take action against SSP Hyderabad Irfan Baloch and other officials for injuring her spouse in a fake police encounter and order the government to compensate her husband as well as provide his medical expenses.
The court after the preliminary hearing of the petition issued notices to advocate general Sindh, the SSP Hyderabad and others, seeking their comments on June 13.
Bail granted
The SHC granted interim protective bail to a co-accused in corruption reference. Abdul Latif Qureshi, the petitioner, submitted that he was issued a call-up notice by NAB pertaining to embezzlement of funds in Town Municipal Administration Taluka Sindhri Mirpurkhas.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that he had nothing to do with the embezzlement of funds and the other co-accused was granted interim bail by a court.
The court granted interim protective bail to the petitioner with a surety of Rs.500,000 and directed him to surrender his passport to the nazir of the court.
