KARACHI: Leg-spinner Usman Qadir announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket on Thursday, reflecting on the journey that shaped his career and enriched his life.

The 31-year-old cricketer took to social media to share his gratitude for the support of coaches, teammates, and fans throughout his time with the national team. “I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket, and as I reflect on this incredible journey, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude.

It has been an immense honour to represent my country, and I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way,” Qadir wrote. “I’m deeply appreciative of the passionate fans who have always stood by me; your unwavering support has meant the world,” he said.

“I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together. Thank you for everything.” Usman said Qadir played one ODI and 25 T20Is for Pakistan, making his debut in a T20I home series against Zimbabwe.

His career got off to a flying start as he took eight wickets for 60 runs in three matches, and was declared the Player of the Series. At his peak, he was considered Pakistan’s primary legspinner, briefly keeping Shadab Khan out of the T20I side.

That Qadir would ever send down an international ball for Pakistan was unlikely as recently as 2018, when he declared his desire to represent Australia. He made his debut for Western Australia in 2018, and played for the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder in the BBL.
