Issues of rice exporters to be resolved on priority: Sindh governor

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori has pledged to address the issues faced by rice exporters as a priority. He made this statement during his visit to the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) House in Karachi at the charge taking ceremony of the newly elected office bearers of REAP.

The event was attended by Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, along with consul generals from the UAE, Qatar and Sri Lanka. Also present were key figures from REAP, including Chairman Malik Faisal Jahangir, Chairman of the Ruling Group Abdul Rahim Janoo, Senior Vice Chairman Jawed Jillani, Outgoing Chairman Chela Ram Kewlani, and President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) Jawed Bilwani.

Tessori extended his congratulations to REAP for achieving a record-breaking $3.9 billion in rice exports during the last fiscal year. He further assured the industry of his full support to tackle their ongoing challenges and expressed optimism that the sealed offices of REAP would soon be reopened. The governor was hopeful that with focused efforts, rice exports could rise to $5 billion in the coming year.

In his welcome address, Chairman Malik Faisal Jahangir thanked both the governor of Sindh and the chief executive of TDAP for their continued support of the rice export sector. He also drew attention to the key issues faced by exporters in the current climate.

Janoo expressed his aspirations for establishing a world-class research and development library at the REAP offices once they are reopened.Motiwala applauded the dedication of REAP members, which led to the impressive $3.9 billion export achievement.
