IHC wraps up contempt of court plea on removal PTI leader Shibli Faraz’s name from Exit Control List (ECL)

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday wrapped up the contempt of court plea on removal PTI leader Shibli Faraz’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri remarked the court’s order has been implemented, therefore the contempt of court plea is rejected being in fructuous.

The contempt of court plea for not removing the name of Shibli Faraz from the ECL despite the court’s orders came up for hearing before Justice Tariq Jahangiri of the IHC on Wednesday.

Faisal Chaudhry, advocate counsel for Shibli Faraz, appeared in the court, while the FIA and Passport and Immigration authorities also appeared. The court summoned Additional Attorney General (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Duggal forthwith.

The counsel for FIA said that only PNI List relates to FIA, wherein the name of Shibli Faraz is not mentioned.

Meanwhile, the Passport and Immigration authorities said: “We had removed the name from the Passport Control List (PCL) and now it is placed on the ECL which comes under the interior ministry.”

To this, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri remarked: “We call the AAG and ask from him.”

On resumption of the hearing of the case after interval, Assistant Attorney General Shaista Khalid appeared in the court and said the name of Senator Shibli Faraz has been removed from the ECL.

She informed the court that the name of Senator Shibli Faraz has been removed from both ECL and PCL.

“The interior ministry authorities are on the way due to blockage of roads. However implementation report on removing the name from ECL will be presented after sometime.”

Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri remarked the court’s orders have been implemented.

“Therefore the contempt of court plea is dismissed being in fructuous.” The contempt plea filed by Senator Shibli Faraz was dismissed after the statement of assistant attorney general.
