Under the direction of the Sindh Ministry of Prisons and the guidance of Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, Shikarpur Jail has been transformed into a reform centre.

A new educational facility has been established within the jail, featuring a computer lab aimed at providing digital education to inmates. According to officials, SP Shikarpur Jail Engineer Abdul Qadeer Palijo has implemented several improvements since taking office. He emphasised that the primary goal of establishing the reform centre is to provide inmates with modern and higher education, equipping them with essential skills for reintegration into society.

Additionally, in line with directives from the Sindh Ministry of Prisons, the SP Shikarpur has tightened security measures within the jail. The number of check posts has been increased to maintain law and order. The SP said that providing better facilities to both the public and inmates is among their top priorities, and they are taking comprehensive measures in this regard. “These initiatives are part of broader reforms aimed at improving conditions within Sindh’s prisons, with a focus on the education and training of inmates to enhance their rehabilitation process,” he said.

Officials believe such programmes will play a crucial role in bringing about positive changes in the lives of prisoners. The reforms not only aim to educate inmates but also demonstrate a commitment to upholding their human rights.

He said this reform centre would offer inmates opportunities to acquire various skills, potentially leading to significant life improvements. Ultimately, these new initiatives at Shikarpur Jail, he said, provide a beacon of hope for inmate rehabilitation and raise expectations for similar programmes to be implemented in other prisons.
