PLRA approves over 600,000 registrations worth Rs1.6 trillion in one year

LAHORE: Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Punjab, Nabeel Javed, chaired a meeting via a video link. The meeting was attended by Member Taxes Zaman Wattoo, Commissioner Multan Maryam Khan, Commissioner Sahiwal Farah Masood, Deputy Commissioner Kasur Aurangzeb, and Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) DG Ikram-ul-Haq, among other senior officials.

During the meeting, Nabeel Javed revealed that the Punjab Land Records Authority approved over 600,000 land registry mutations, valued at Rs1.6 trillion, in the fiscal year 2023-24, marking a significant achievement. He highlighted that the Punjab government has abolished the official fees for land division and mutation. Previously, Punjab Land Records Authority charged service fees for these services, but the Board of Revenue has now waived these charges.

However, routine land registries still incur a service charge of 0.1% of the land value or Rs3,000 per registry, whichever is higher. Nabeel Javed also shared plans to construct a new building for PLRA’s head office to improve services. Due to space constraints in the current office, some PLRA departments are operating from rented buildings.

The proposed new headquarters is likely to be located near the CBD (Central Business District) in Kalma Chowk, Lahore. The Punjab Land Record Authority ’s ‘PLUS’ programme will also be relocated to the new building. The Board of Revenue has approved PLRA to proceed with planning and cost estimation for this project, which will be submitted for further approval.

In a separate development, the Board also accepted the resignation of Nadia Ahmed Cheema, Additional Director of Public Relations. Nadia had taken a year of unpaid medical leave and requested an additional year, which was not approved. Following this, she submitted her resignation, which was accepted by the Board.
