KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has extended an invitation to Chinese investors to invest in electric buses and bikes and waste-to-energy projects.
He made this statement during a meeting with a delegation of Chinese investors, led by Chairman of the Belt & Road (B&R) Group Wan Xiaowu. Both sides agreed to facilitate private Chinese investment in the city.
The chief minister was accompanied by Minister for Planning & Development (P&D) and Energy Nasir Shah; Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani; Chairman P&D Najam Shah; and Secretary to the CM Raheem Shaikh.
Murad Ali Shah expressed his government’s openness to Chinese public and private firms investing directly in projects of their choice or forming public-private partnerships with the Sindh government. Xiaowu noted that over 12 top Chinese firms have expressed interest in investing in Karachi, particularly in areas such as waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, desalination plants, manufacturing of electric buses, kits to convert petrol motorcycles to electric power, and the reconstruction of the city’s sewerage system.
The chief minister assured the delegation that his government would provide all necessary facilities to help Chinese firms establish their plants in Sindh. Both parties agreed to hold another meeting with the planning and development department and the Board of Investment to finalize project selections and initiate negotiations to commence work.
