Leghari warns inefficient Discos of action
Meeting reviewed line losses and bill collection performance for July and August 2024
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari expressed serious concern on Monday over the poor performance of power distribution companies (Discos) and announced plans for strict administrative actions against their management.
The minister chaired a meeting focusing on Discos’ performance, which included all board chairpersons and chief executive officers (CEOs) of the companies. The meeting reviewed line losses and bill collection performance for July and August 2024.
A statement from the Power Division voiced strong discontent with the performance of certain companies’ management, indicating that strict administrative measures would be implemented against their officials.
During the meeting, chairpersons and CEOs briefed attendees on the status, initiatives, and challenges facing their respective companies. Leghari emphasized the need for each company to adopt more proactive strategies to enhance financial conditions by reducing line losses and improving recoveries.
Additionally, the minister directed all officials to hold review meetings by the 10th of each month to facilitate his personal assessment of Discos’ monthly performance. He reiterated that government efforts would lead to noticeable increases in recoveries and significant reductions in line losses in the coming months.
