KHAR: A senior leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Bajaur chapter, on Sunday urged the Pakistan and Afghan governments to end the violence in the Pakhtun belt and border areas, saying that JI was ready to play the role as a mediator.

Addressing a press conference at the Bajaur Press Club, JI Bajaur chief Sahibzada Haroonur Rasheed said that the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had caused massive harm to the people of the tribal areas.

Flanked by JI other activists, including Sufi Hameed, Sardar Khan, Qari Abdul Majeed, Latifur Rahman, Farman, Arifullah, and others, Haroonur Rasheed that with the withdrawal of the US and NATO forces from the neighbouring country, any conflict between Muslims on both sides of the border was harming both the nations, particularly Pakhtuns.

He believed that the conflict was primarily driven by misunderstandings, which must be halted through peaceful means.

The JI former lawmaker urged the Pakistani establishment to abandon the policies of former president Pervez Musharraf and instead, pursue dialogue. Musharraf’s policies, he said, had inflicted substantial damage on Pakistan, including putting the debt burden of Rs80 trillion on the nation.

He also asked the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the Pakistani people in the war against America and to play a role in restoring peace and stability in the region.
