Tehreek member says over 8,000 disputes resolved
MARDAN: Convener of the Qaumi Islahi Tehreek Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohrab Ali Khan has said that the organisation has successfully resolved over 8,000 disputes, including cases of murder, attempted murder, domestic conflicts, and property issues.
Speaking at the Meet the Press programme at the Mardan Press Club, Sohrab Ali Khan stated that character development among the youth is crucial to curbing crime and drug trafficking. Divisional convener Haji Humayun Khalji, along with other members, including Inayat Babuzai, Hidayatullah, Naeem Bacha, Professor Liaquat Ali Shah, Anwarshed Safi, Israr Khan, and Azmat Ali, were also present.
Sohrab Ali Khan explained that the reform movement, which started in a small town, has now spread to 25 districts across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the core aim of the movement is to eliminate social and moral crimes from society, emphasising that everyone must contribute to creating a peaceful, stable, and prosperous community.
The Qaumi Islahi Tehreek has established reconciliation councils at street and neighborhood levels to help resolve conflicts. Youth participation is key, with 60 percent of the councils comprising young members. He said these councils aim to reduce the burden on formal institutions by handling disputes at the grassroots level.
The movement operates through three wings: welfare, reconciliation, and reformation. The convener reiterated the organisation’s commitment to non-violence and its goal of reforming sectors such as education, health, and agriculture. He stressed that collaboration with local institutions is essential for fostering a peaceful society.
He said that as part of its strategy, the Qaumi Islahi Tehreek advocates for a social boycott of individuals responsible for societal discord. Religious scholars and mosque Imams will be encouraged to withhold services such as marriage ceremonies and funeral prayers for such individuals.
