PESHAWAR: A dengue awareness campaign has been launched in Charsadda district, focusing on training Lady Health Workers (LHWs), conducting awareness walks, and distributing educational materials among the public.

“The initiative is aimed at controlling the spread of dengue and responding to existing cases,” said a spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department. Out of 701 suspected dengue cases, he said, 51 have been confirmed positive.

In a response to dengue cases, he said, the LHWs have inspected 932,908 households, identifying 466 with dengue larvae, which were promptly discarded. “The LHWs have checked 932,908 households and eliminated 466 breeding sites. All identified sites were mechanically discarded and chemically treated,” he added.

He added that malaria supervisors inspected 7,058 sites, treating 83 positive sites with chemicals. “About 11,400 bed nets have been distributed in dengue and malaria hotspots,” he added.

He said that 24 dengue awareness walks were organized to educate the public. “Community participation is crucial in preventing dengue, and similar initiatives have proven effective in informing communities about dengue causes and prevention,” he added.
