The people of Pakistan mainly pay two types of taxes: the with-holding tax (WHT) on earnings and the general sales tax (GST) on anything they purchase. Roughly, every individual who earns any amount, pays at least 25 per cent of his/her income against WHT and GST. Those who are filers, get the benefit of their paid WHT while filing their annual income/wealth tax returns.
On the other hand, the people get no benefit from the GST that they pay. The government should reform the tax system such that there are more benefits to becoming a filer. This new system would certainly help the government generate revenues.
