With all due respect, while Maryam Nawaz is the chief minister of Punjab, she is not ideally positioned to interview and select VCs of universities who hold PhDs and possess extensive experience in the field of education. The same reasoning applies to the Punjab governor. This procedure appears to be a remnant of our colonial past.
Currently, the selection committees for various universities comprise only three to five members. It is suggested that in future, the selection committees should also include eminent individuals from agriculture, industry, business, finance, IT, psychology, and a representative from the overseas Pakistani community. Maximum age for hiring should be limited to 60 years.
