Housing schemes’ affectees throng NAB open court

LAHORE : National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore Director General (DG) Amjad Majeed Aulakh on Saturday held a monthly open court session in regional bureau here on Saturday.

Around 200 complainants appeared at the open court. The affectees were of different scams and housing societies.

On the occasion, DG Amjad Majeed emphasised that NAB is the only institution that conducts self-accountability. He stated that NAB Lahore organises monthly open court to address public grievances, providing a platform for affectees to voice their concerns. During the open court, the DG NAB-L made several key decisions to extend relief to the affectees. Regarding traders scandal, he authorised a full-fledged inquiry after completion of complaint verification process in which more than 700 claimants submitted their claims to the tune of Rs570 million (approx). The decision reflects NAB's resolve to hold the perpetrators accountable for defrauding innocent citizens.

In another significant development, the DG finalised settlement plan for a housing society, ensuring the provision of plots to each and every claimant. He assured the affectees that NAB will not rest until the last claimant receives his plot. He added that within the upcoming few months, all 700 affectees will get relief. For those who may not receive plots, market value compensation will be ensured, he said.

To facilitate the complainant another scheme, the NAB DG directed the team concerned for immediate redressal till complainant’s satisfaction. He referred complaints against a scheme’s administration to the Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer (DPO), Sheikhupura for further action.

Regarding another scam, DG NAB Lahore informed the affectees that NAB is actively pursuing to auction the seized properties for recovery of public investments yet two auction attempts remained inconclusive. However, he assured that efforts are underway to return double amounts to the affectees of their investments. The open court participants expressed their confidence on the efforts of DG NAB Amjad Majeed Aulakh and appreciated NAB Lahore's progress in various cases.

They praised the regional bureau's proactive approach in addressing public grievances by holding the responsible accountable for cheating and corruption. DG NAB Lahore reaffirmed Chairman NAB’s commitment to protect public rights and to promote transparency and self-accountability in NAB.
