Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Saturday inaugurated the online driving licence issuance system in Clifton, and congratulated IG Ghulam Nabi Memon and Traffic Licensing DIG Iqbal Dara on launching the service for the public. “This will be a milestone in Sindh police’s history.”

Lanjar said people would benefit from easy learning and international licences, and non-commercial licence renewals, adding that modern policing would improve Sindh police’s image and foster a friendly environment between police and the public.

He said he observed the licence issuance process and found it to be satisfactory. “Sindh police’s improved image is crucial, and today’s achievement is credited to IG Sindh and his team. This initiative will boost Sindh police’s morale.”

He directed the DIG Traffic to improve the city’s parking system, and congratulated the IT team on introducing modern policing and commended their overall efforts.

He also directed the Addl IGP Karachi to establish model police stations in the South and City districts, and announced special packages for the model police station staff. “I assure Sindh police of the Sindh government’s full support, and I’ll identify the shortcomings, if any, for further improvement.”

IG Memon said on the occasion that online facilities are being provided to the public, noting that a majority of the people in the city do not have driving licences. The online driving licence issuance aims to reduce traffic accidents, he added.

He said that globally, traffic systems operate under IT. “We must adapt to modern requirements. Under IT, services like Search App, Point Me, employee verification, online certificate verification, Hotel Eye, etc., are performing well.”

He also commended DIG Dara and his team for the online services, hoping that the policing innovation would continue. He said that with online facilities, the pressure on the driving licence branch would decrease.
