A young motorcyclist was killed when two speeding water tankers were racing, and one of them lost control and ran over him near the Safari Park on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker drivers were racing, which led to the tragic accident. Following the incident, enraged citizens set one of the tankers on fire and began protesting.

They blocked University Road, resulting in a severe traffic jam. Rescue workers retrieved the deceased’s body from under the tanker and took it to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where the victim was identified as 21-year-old Muhammad Zeeshan, son of Muhammad Afsar.

Initially, the drivers fled the scene, leaving their tankers behind. Later, one tanker driver was arrested, while the search for the others was continuing late into the night.

Traffic police diverted vehicles towards alternative routes. After a while, police arrived, restoring order and resuming traffic flow on University Road and surrounding streets.

The deceased was a resident of King Cottage in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 7. After completing formalities, the police handed over the body to the victim’s family.

Gang member killed

Police claimed to have killed an alleged member of the notorious White Corolla gang during an encounter in District Central.

According to District Central police, the encounter occurred near Namak Bank in the Buffer Zone area within the Taimuria police station’s jurisdiction.

When police signalled a suspicious white Corolla to stop, the suspects opened fire in an attempt to escape. In the ensuing exchange of fire, one suspect was killed, while another, who was injured, managed to flee. The police pursued the fleeing suspect and recovered the white Corolla, along with weapons and shell casings, in the Sharifabad area.

The police were currently searching for the escaped suspect. The body of the deceased robber was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later moved to the morgue for identification.

In a separate incident, police engaged in an encounter with robbers in the Pak Colony’s Jahanabad area. After an exchange of gunfire, one robber, identified as Wali Naeem, was arrested with injuries.

The police recovered a pistol and ammunition from him. He was taken to the hospital for medical treatment under police custody.
