Jahangir Tareen once again gets highest sugar export quota

Two sugar mills, owned by Tareen, have been allotted quota of 4,028 metric tonnes and 3,161 metric tonnes

LAHORE: Jahangir Tareen, leading sugar tycoon and an ally of the incumbent coalition government, has been awarded the highest sugar quota for exports.

Two sugar mills, owned by Tareen including JDW Sugar Mills Unit-I and JDW Sugar Mills Unit-II, have been allotted quota of 4,028 metric tonnes and 3,161 metric tonnes, respectively. In total, Tareen’s mills produce largest volume of sugar among other factories and said to be most efficient in the country.

Following permission granted by the Economic Coordination Committee of the federal cabinet on Sept 20, 2024 to export 100,000 tonnes of sugar, Punjab sugar mills have been allotted 64 per cent, Sindh 30pc and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa mills 6pc of quota. According to the notification, 41 sugar mills of Punjab have been allotted a quota of 64,000 metric tonnes of sugar export. As per the notification issued by Punjab cane commissioner, Ashraf Sugar Mills Bahawalpur has been allotted a quota of 1,438 MT, Ittefaq Sugar Mills 8,65 MT, Adam Sugar Mills allotted 987 MT, Hamza Sugar Mills 4,357 MT, Madina Sugar Mills allotted 2,527 MT quota, Ramzan Sugar Mills 1,992 MT, and Safina allotted 1,551 MT quota. As many as 756 MT quota has been allotted to Baba Farid Sugar Mills, 738 MT to Pattuki Sugar Mills and 119 MT to Makkah Sugar Mills. Moreover, 2,933 MT quota was allotted to RY Sugar Mills, and 1,433 MT to Chaudhry Sugar Mills.

Shah Taj Sugar Mills has been allotted 981 MT, Fatima Sugar Mills 2,325 MT, Al Arabiya Sugar Mills Sargodha 1,107 MT, Unicoal 918 MT, Mueez Industries 1,225 MT, Noon Sugar Mills 1,027, Darya Khan has been allotted a quota of 1,295 MT, Indus Sugar Mills 1,785, Chinar Sugar Mills 628, and Haq Bahu Sugar Mills 828 MT. Seven Star Sugar Mills has been allotted 574 MT quota and Tariq Corporation 822 MT quota. Etihad Sugar Mills was allotted 3,028 MT quota, and SW Sugar Mills 1,202 MT quota.
