PESHAWAR: Adviser to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, said on Friday that solid steps were being taken to resolve the dispute in the Kurram tribal district.

“There is a land dispute between two rival groups in Kurram. This should not be termed terrorism or sectarianism,” he insisted while saying that a ceasefire had been effected there due to the efforts of the local elders and the police. Referring to the recent attack on a convoy of foreign diplomats in Swat district, Barrister Saif accused the federal government of playing politics on the issue through various statements.

He insisted that the KP government was not informed about the diplomats’ visit. “The federal government is issuing statements to hide its negligence,” he said.

It is worth mentioning here that a convoy taking diplomats from 12 countries was targeted last week with a roadside device when the foreigners were heading to the scenic Kalam valley. Though the diplomats remained unharmed in the attack, a cop lost his life as a police van escorting the convoy was damaged in the attack. The adviser said that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had constituted a committee to probe the Swat attack. Barrister Saif said another committee had been formed to investigate Thursday’s blast at a police station in the Swabi district that claimed two lives.

“Action would be taken against the negligent cops in the light of the findings of the committee,” he added.
