The Pakistan Customs announced on Friday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of betel nut from Balochistan to Karachi.
According to a customs spokesperson, the operation was part of an ongoing anti-smuggling campaign. Acting on a tip-off, officials recovered 4,000 kilograms of betel nut concealed in a truck loaded with straw. The betel nut, valued at Rs4 million, was being transported from Balochistan.
The seizure occurred at the Humdard checkpoint, where officers inspected a truck with registration number TKC012 and uncovered the smuggled goods. The total value of the seized betel nut and the truck amounts to Rs8.5 million. The truck had been confiscated.
A case had been registered, and the betel nut and vehicle was moved to the ASO warehouse, and further investigations were underway.
