Rawalpindi:Dengue fever has claimed another life from Rawalpindi in the last 24 hours taking the total number of deaths so far caused by the infection from the district to five while the dengue fever spread has taken shape of an outbreak that is hitting population hard in Potohar Town, Rawal Town and areas falling under the jurisdiction of Chaklala and Rawalpindi cantonment boards.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Friday reveals that a 45-year old female patient of dengue fever who was a resident of Dhok Gujran along Misriyal Road died of the infection here at Benazir Bhutto Hospital. The patient was undergoing treatment at the BBH for four days.
Data also reveals that in the last 24 hours, as many as 65 individuals have tested positive for dengue fever from Rawalpindi taking the total number of patients so far confirmed positive from the district to 1026. Of 65 cases, 33 have been reported from Potohar Town, 18 from Chaklala and Rawalpindi cantonment boards areas and eight from areas falling under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi while one patient has been tested positive from Tehsil Kahuta and three from Tehsil Gujar Khan.
It is important to note here that so far, well over 90 per cent of the total patients reported from Rawalpindi district this year so far are residents of Potohar Town, Rawalpindi city areas and cantonment board areas in town and the number of cases being reported from other tehsils of the district are much lesser than the cases from city areas.
The dengue fever outbreak in town is getting severe with every passing day as out of 1,026 dengue fever cases reported from Rawalpindi this year, as many as 248 have been reported in the last 72 hours recording an average of 81 cases per day. On Friday, as many as 157 dengue fever patients were undergoing treatment in teaching hospitals in town.
‘The News’ has learnt that the dengue fever outbreak is hitting harder the population in Chak Jalal Din, Dhok Munshee, Gangal, Dhamyal, Kotha Kalan, Shakrial, Girja, Chaklala, Chakri, Chaman Zar, Pindora, Dhok Kala Khan, Dhok Kashmirian, Asghar Mall Scheme, Gulistan Colony, F Block and D Block of Satellite Town, Affandi Colony, Kalyal, Khanna Dak, Morgah, Adyala Road, Dhok Ali Akbar, Chah Sultan and a number of localities in cantonment board areas.
