PSB links future grants with teams’ performance, activities
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has linked issuing of future grants to the sports federations with teams’ performance in international events and activities planned and executed at the domestic level for the whole year.
The new criteria has been approved during the PSB Board’s 29th meeting and the salient features of the newly-approved criteria include: Government funding will be provided only upon the performance of the NSFs; Number of medals secured in the international competitions/events; National Men and Women (Senior & Junior) Championships organized; International events organized by NSFs in Pakistan; Talent hunt and grooming initiatives taken by NSF.
It has been envisaged that those federations having the basic structure will be given the funding. Government funding will be given only to the NSFs that have a structure from local clubs/tehsil to the national level.
The PSB handout says all the federations must submit a planned activity calendar by March every year. “The NSFs will submit financial year sports activities calendar along with budget estimates during March for the next financial year so that their proposals could be incorporated in the PSB’s budget. The request for grants must come with budget estimates and a statement of accounts for the previous year duly audited by a private audit firm as the grant will only be released on the receipt of these accounts.
Evaluation of statement of accounts by the PSB will be carried out as the DG PSB will authorize any officer to conduct physical inspection of accounts of NSFs. The grants-in-aid, earlier released, will be audited by the Auditor General of Pakistan.
