September 28 marks World News Day, which aims to raise awareness of issues in journalism. One of the key concerns that has emerged in recent years is the safety of journalists, with many having been killed for simply doing their jobs and reporting the truth. In many cases, the perpetrators of these crimes are never brought to justice. The killing of Nasarullah Gadani, a journalist from Sindh, is an illustration of this problem. His family has accused a powerful politician of being involved in his murder but prosecuting such individuals has always been a challenge in Pakistan. On this World News Day, I urge the authorities to ensure justice for Nasrullah Gadani and his family and send a message that journalists cannot be killed with impunity.
