LAHORE: A row between the Punjab governor and the chief minister over the appointment of vice chancellors to universities in Punjab has intensified.
Both have issued statements in support of their stance, with Maryam Nawaz alleging that Salim Haider wants to appoint a person of his choice as the Punjab University VC. In a formal discussion with media persons on Thursday, she said the governor could have rejected the name to which he had an objection. She said the entire matter was related to the appointment of the PU VC and the PMLN wanted the appointment on merit. She is handling every matter on merit and pays no attention to any Sifarish even by her own party MNAs or MPAs. She works from 9am to 12pm.
Clarifying his position, Salim said he had no intent to appoint any person of his choice as VC. Nobody can dare offer him even two rupees, not to talk of Rs 20 million.
Meanwhile, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said Maryam completed the process of appointing VCs transparently for the first time.
