Directive to use IT to combat crime
LAHORE:Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana Thursday presided over a meeting on law and order and security situation at his office.
The participants reviewed the overall security situation and emphasized enhancing the Lahore Police's capabilities through modern training to transform it as a professional fighting force. In the meeting the use of IT technology and human intelligence was stressed to combat crime and the police officers were urged to remain vigilant in protecting citizens’ lives and properties. The CCPO directed the swift resolution of pending road certificates, electricity theft cases and arresting unidentified suspects, calling for improved supervision by divisional SPs. He directed the SPs and the SDPOs to continue open-door policy for ensuring prompt resolution of public complaints.
DIG (Security) Awais Ahmad, DIG (Investigations) Zeeshan Asghar, DIG (OCU) Imran Kishwar, DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran, Chief Traffic Police Officer (Lahore) Amara Athar, SSP (Investigations) Muhammad Naveed, SPs (OCU) North and South, SP (Security) and divisional SPs of operations and investigations wings, SPs from various units including CRO, Headquarters, Dolphin, ARF and AVLS also attended the meeting.
Moot on ‘modern policing’
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) organised a groundbreaking conference on ‘modern policing,’ bringing together leading figures from law enforcement, academia, media, legal sectors, and other professional spheres to discuss the evolving role of technology in law enforcement.
The moot was attended by IGP Dr Usman Anwar, Managing Director PSCA Muhammad Ahsan Younas, senior police officers, and various experts, who collectively highlighted the transformative power of modern technology in enhancing policing effectiveness.
The IGP emphasised the pivotal role of the MD PSCA in driving the modernisation of policing efforts across the province. He lauded the advancements in crime mapping and the strategic deployment of police officers made possible through modern technology. Experts shared insights on the integration of artificial intelligence in law enforcement, its role in smart cities, and the necessity of cutting-edge cyber security and investigative practices to tackle cybercrime.
