PESHAWAR: A two-member fact-finding committee has been constituted to probe the Swat attack on foreign diplomats as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor on Wednesday wrote letters to ambassadors in the wake of the incident.
“The government is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and will work tirelessly to bring culprits to justice. We understand the importance of safeguarding foreign visitors and are reinforcing our security measures to prevent such incidents in future,” Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said in a letter to the diplomats who were visiting the Swat district when the attack happened.
He added that as governor he wanted to convey his profound relief that, as state guests, they were safe during this attack. “The protection of foreign guests is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring a secure environment for all foreign visitors,” Kundi.
“We understand that incidents like this can raise concerns, and we are taking immediate and robust measures to enhance security across the region. In light of this situation, I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor’s House, in the near future at your convenience,” stated the letter.
The governor hoped that through the future visit, the beautiful face of the province blended with hospitality, affection and care shall be incarnated, besides, ensuring peace in the province.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the two-member fact-finding inquiry committee of senior officials would probe the bomb attack on the convoy of diplomats on Malam Jabba Road in Swat on September 22 and submit the report within seven days.
According to a notification the committee comprises additional inspector general Investigation Muhammad Alam Shinwari and Special Secretary Home Department Zubair Ahmad. The committee would submit the report to the KP government within a week.
One policeman was martyred and two others were wounded when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device on the Malam Jabba Road on the 22nd of this month. The vehicle was escorting a delegation of envoys of different countries and members of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries. All diplomats were safe after the explosion and were shifted to Islamabad.
The diplomats were on their way to Malam Jabba after attending an event at the Chamber of Commerce in Mingora when the attack happened at the Sherabad locality.
According to police, diplomats from Russia, Portugal, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Iran and other countries were part of the convoy.
