Powerless
We, the villagers of Sirkikhel, Lakki Marwat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are deprived of power at almost all hours. Those who have solar panels enjoy an uninterrupted supply of power while the impoverished segments of society worry about fighting mosquitoes throughout the night and bearing the scorching heat during the day. Fear rules the entire locality and public movement after evening prayers is very limited due to the threat of thieves and dacoits taking advantage of the blackouts.
The Pesco authorities are sending hefty bills to the local consumers and, until they are fully cleared, the power outages look set to continue. But when the power goes those who pay their bills are in the same boat as those who do not. Pesco should take action against those who deliberately refuse to pay their bills. Proactive action against such consumers may help mitigate the sufferings of the residents of Sirkikhel.
