BKMC Swabi to get MRI and cath lab facilities

SWABI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, has pledged to expedite the ongoing development projects at the Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC-MTI) in Swabi and Gajju Khan Medical College (GKMC-MTI).

Accompanied by the deputy commissioner during his visit, the chief secretary reviewed the progress of ongoing projects at the hospital. Dean GKMC, Prof Dr Shamsur Rahman, Hospital Director BKMC, Dr Khalid Masud, and Medical Director, Prof Dr Shahid Nisar Khalid, welcomed the chief secretary and briefed the officials on the services being offered to patients.

The chief secretary visited various hospital areas, including the Intensive Care Unit dialysis unit, HIV/Family Care Center, infectious diseases, and other areas of the hospital, BKMC spokesperson, Raham Yousafzai said.

Dr Khalid Masud stressed the urgent need for advanced medical equipment, especifically an MRI machine, cath lab, and an additional CT scan for the Emergency Department. The issue of electricity fluctuations was highlighted which disrupted the healthcare delivery.

The chief secretary assured the hospital administration of full cooperation from the provincial government. “To improve patient care and the operational capacity of BKMC, the KP government will support the administration in installing medical equipment and urgently address the electricity supply issues”, he told the hospital administration.

Dean Prof Dr Shamsur Rahman informed the chief secretary about the construction delays on the college’s purpose-built building, which have been halted for several months due to financial constraints.

He stated that despite these challenges, our medical college had achieved a 100 percent pass rate in the Khyber Medical University annual examinations for three consecutive batches. The dean provided an update on the Nigar College of Nursing, emphasizing its role in addressing the nursing staff shortage.
