Stepmom beats 9-year-old girl black and blue

LAHORE:A nine-year-old girl was tortured by her stepmother in the Shahdara area. The stepmother fled the scene following the incident, leaving the child in critical condition.

According to police reports, the victim Maryam was rushed to Children’s Hospital. Her mother, Rabia, had left her daughter in the care of her stepmother while going to perform Umrah. On returning, Rabia was devastated to learn that her daughter was hospitalised. ‘I found out about my daughter’s condition only after I returned from Umrah. Shaista had assaulted her while I was away,’ Rabia said in her statement, adding that she has filed an official complaint against Shaista at Shahdara Police Station.

SHO Shahdara, Tahseen, confirmed that an FIR was registered, and the accused stepmother was arrested. The Chairperson of the Child Protection Bureau and MPA Sarah Ahmad instructed the bureau’s rescue team to establish contact with Maryam and her family, ensuring they receive all necessary support.

Lady constable murdered by fellow cop

A tragic incident unfolded in Harbanspura, where a lady constable was murdered by a fellow police constable after an argument.

The victim, identified as Saman, had arrived at a park near the canal with the suspect, Farooq, who is also a constable. According to police reports, the two were sitting by the canal for an extended period before an argument broke out between them. The confrontation intensified, catching the attention of locals who attempted to intervene. Eyewitnesses claimed that bystanders urged Farooq to apologise, but the situation took a darker turn when he drew a pistol and fired warning shots into the air, causing the crowd to scatter in panic. Farooq allegedly shot Saman in the leg before delivering three fatal shots to her head, leaving her dead on the spot.

Farooq fled the scene, continuing to fire shots, witnesses reported. DIG Operations Faisal Kamran has taken notice of the incident and instructed SP Cantt Owais Shafique to ensure the swift arrest of the suspect. Police teams have been mobilised to arrest the accused. SP Cantt confirmed that both the victim and the suspect were constables. IGP Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the CCPO. He also directed DIG Operations to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused using CCTV footage and quick justice should be provided to the victim's family.

Two dacoits held

Ghaziabad police arrested two dacoits. The arrested suspects were identified as Usman alias Usmani, the gang leader, and his accomplice, Shakeel, according to a police spokesperson. During the operation, the police recovered five stolen motorcycles, cash, two pistols, and multiple rounds of ammunition from the suspects. SP Cantt Avais Shafique stated that the suspects confessed to committing several robberies in the Ghaziabad area. The suspects have been formally charged.
