ISLAMABAD: PTI founding member and former information secretary Akbar S Babar on Monday said the apex court verdict relied heavily on the self-serving concept of ‘complete justice’ to justify the relief provided to PTI.
Commenting on the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s majority verdict in the reserved seats case, he said the verdict relied heavily on the self-serving concept of ‘complete justice’ to justify the relief provided to the PTI, even though it was neither a party in the case nor demanded the relief provided to it. “So the question arises: Was the PTI the only political party aggrieved over the electoral process or other political parties also complained of unfair practices,” he contended.
He said: “We all know that several political parties complained of unfair practices. In fact, during post-election re-counting, the declared results were overturned in favour of other political parties”. This, he noted, raised the fundamental question: Why were the grievances of other political parties not addressed under the same concept of ‘complete justice’ and the relief provided, just like in the PTI case. “This is a fundamental question, besides many other legal questions, that undermines the credibility of the entire verdict as it appears less ‘complete justice’ and more ‘tailored justice’ in favour of the PTI only.
