QUETTA: The Pak-Iran border, the Jiwani-Gabd 250 border, has been closed until further notice after failure of negotiations between the district administration and the pick-up union.

The border has been closed immediately on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Gwadar Hamood-ur-Rehman due to the current security situation and closure of the Coastal Highway.

During this period, all commercial activities and vehicle movement will remain suspended. The public is requested to cooperate with the administration and avoid unnecessary movement.

The sit-in by the pick-up union at Surbandan Cross in protest against the ban on border trade continued for the third consecutive day on Sunday. The deputy commissioner and All Parties leaders engaged in negotiations but these ended without reaching any conclusion.

Meanwhile, due to the sit-in, hundreds of vehicles are parked on both sides of the border. The closure of Makran Coastal Highway for the past three days has raised the fears of a food crisis in the city.

Hundreds of pilgrims returning from Iran after pilgrimage have been stuck up following the suspension of traffic between Gwadar-Karachi and Turbat-Quetta.
