PESHAWAR: Senator Maulana Ataur Rahman was reelected unopposed as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF) and Ataul Haq as general secretary for another five-year term as the intra-party elections at the provincial level were held here on Sunday.

The elections were arranged at a wedding hall near the provincial headquarters of the party. Some 1935 members of the general council of the party, out of the total 2165 members, attended the polls.

The elections were supervised by the central assistant head of the election committee Haji Abdul Jalil Jan, Mufti Nasir Mehmud and provincial head of the election committee Ahmad Ali Darvesh.

The general council meeting was presided over by Maulana Ataur Rahman. No one turned up to contest polls against the incumbent president and general secretary and thus they were chosen again unopposed for another term of five years.

The inter-party elections at Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab and Islamabad have already been completed. The provincial elections for party leadership in Balochistan would be held on September 24, Sindh on September 26 and at the central level on September 29.
