Couple arrested in attempted murder case
LAHORE : Kot Lakhpat police arrested a couple involved in an attempted murder case in Chundraye village area. The accused identified as Rafiq and his wife Farzana allegedly attacked one Nafees with a knife after a family dispute.
According to police, the incident occurred after a heated argument between Nafees’ son and his nephew escalated into violence. Nafees, accompanied by his father, had visited the house of his brother Rafiq to resolve a conflict. However, during the reconciliation attempt, Rafiq and Farzana, in a fit of rage, attacked Nafees, inflicting a deep wound on his left leg with a knife.
Biker arrested for ‘misbehaving’ with warden
Police on Saturday arrested a motorcyclist identified as Nauman for obstruction of official duties and attempting to take law into his own hands and allegedly grabbed a senior traffic warden by his collar.
He was arrested after attempting to evade a traffic fine for riding without a helmet at Shah Alam Chowk.
According to traffic police reports, the motorcyclist first tried to flee when a senior warden stopped him for violating helmet laws. The Nauman resorted to creating a roadblock and inciting chaos in the middle of the road.
Four arrested for overpricing
In a significant move to enforce official prices, the Price Control Magistrates have conducted inspections at 459 locations, leading to the arrest of four individuals for overpricing fruits, vegetables, and other essential items. Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Musa Raza told media on Saturday that five cases have been registered for violations of government-set prices.
Furthermore, fines totaling Rs600,000 have been imposed for 123 instances of non-compliance.
The DC emphasized that Price Control Magistrates and Assistant Commissioners are actively ensuring adherence to official rates.
Supervision of the auction process in fruit and vegetable markets is also underway to prevent any malpractices.
Administrative officers are ensuring the sale of fruits, vegetables, and bread at government-approved prices. All stalls and shops are being instructed to prominently display the rate list, and strict action is being taken against those failing to comply.
Following the directives of the Chief Minister of Punjab, no leniency will be shown towards overpricing.
Citizens are encouraged to register their complaints regarding overpricing at the Chief Minister Punjab’s helpline: 080002345, he urged. Meanwhile, over the past 24 hours, dengue surveillance teams checked 53,113 locations and found dengue larvae at 2,189 sites.
In addition, 73 cases were registered for violations of dengue SOPs, and a total of 527,704 containers were inspected. DC Syed Musa Raza emphasized that all resources are being utilized to ensure the elimination of dengue larvae, with daily monitoring of the city’s dengue situation.
He noted that teams are actively engaged in indoor and outdoor larvae elimination, aiming for 100 percent coverage of hot spots.
Public awareness campaigns are also underway to prevent the dengue virus, and citizens are encouraged to cooperate with the district administration in these efforts, following precautionary measures as advised.
Road accidents
Seven persons were killed and 1527 injured in 1,377 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Out of these, 645 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 882 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.
Furthermore, the analysis showed those 763 drivers, 71 underage drivers, 192 pedestrians, and 579 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes.
The statistics showed that 266 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 300 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by Faisalabad 105 in with 110 victims and at third Multan with 94 road accidents and 104 victims.
According to the data 1,256 motorbikes, 71 auto-rickshaws, 126 motorcars, 30 vans, 13 passenger buses, 35 truck and 105 other types of auto vehicles and carts were involved in these road traffic accidents.
