HYDERABAD: A court on Saturday remanded former adviser to Sindh chief minister and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Muhammad Ismail Dahri in judicial custody for three days in a drug smuggling case.
Earlier, the PRO to the Hyderabad SSP said in a press release that the A-Section police had foiled a bid to smuggle drugs by operating at night and seized a large quantity of charas and a Kalashnikov from two suspects.
According to the press release, two persons riding in a vehicle were checked on information on Auto Bhan Road, where more than 5kg of charas and one unlicensed Kalashnikov were seized from them.
Police identified the suspects as Ismail Dahri and Inayat Otho, and claimed that both had admitted to selling drugs in their initial statements.
The police registered two cases, one each under the Narcotics Act and the Arms Act and presented the accused in the court. The court accepted their plea and sent the accused to judicial remand.
Talking to the media inside the court premises, Dahri confirmed his and guard Inayat Otho’s arrests and said his driver and manager were still missing and had been taken elsewhere.
Dahri said he had been an adviser to former CM Qaim Ali Shah, but the police were treating him like a robber. He alleged that everything had been done by Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar. He said the Kalashnikov found on him was licensed.
