KARACHI: The election to select 30 members of the managing committee of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) was held on Saturday.
Polling started at 9am and ended at 6pm, proceeding peacefully. According to the election committee, 4,200 members of the KCCI cast their votes.
For the first time, KCCI members voted to elect all 30 candidates for the managing committee in a single election.
Until last year, out of the 30 managing committee members, 15 retired upon completing their two-year tenure. This time, all 30 members of the managing committee retired simultaneously.
Candidates from two major groups, the Businessmen Group (BMG) led by Zubair Motiwala and the Businessmen Alliance (BMA) led by Asif Sakhi, participated in the elections. The election of office-bearers and the annual general meeting will be held on September 28, 2024.
