MANSEHRA: Deputy Commissioner of Kolai-Palas, Ishtiaq Ahmad, assured residents on Saturday that healthcare challenges faced by women in the district will be resolved soon, particularly with the appointment of lady health workers (LHWs).

Speaking at an open forum in Mehreen village, the deputy commissioner acknowledged the shortage of healthcare personnel and promised swift action. “I assure you that the appointment of lady health workers will be completed soon to provide better healthcare services to women in the district,” he stated.

The forum included the heads of devolved public departments and District Police Officer (DPO) Amjad Hussain.

Local residents, particularly elders, raised concerns over the lack of doctors, lady health workers, and medical staff at basic health units (BHUs).

They said they faced challenges in transporting our women to health facilities in other districts due to poor transport options in these mountainous areas. “The government should ensure the availability of healthcare workers at local facilities,” stated one elder.

The deputy commissioner said that the open forums were being organised for the first time in remote areas to address such concerns.

“I will ensure that the issues raised in this forum are addressed promptly, so the local population can have better access to healthcare services,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, DPO Amjad Hussain said that the crime rate in the district is much lower as compared to other districts in the province.

“The residents of Kolai-Palas have consistently supported the police in keeping the district peaceful,” he said.
