NOWSHERA: The outbreak of dengue fever has hit four union councils in Nowshera Kalaan, leaving two dead and infecting many at homes and in hospitals in the district.
The local authorities have launched efforts to contain the fast spreading of the disease in the district. Health officials confirmed the deaths of 35-year-old Samira and 40-year-old Shiraz, who have recently succumbed to the virus.
The rising number of cases has prompted the district health officer to seek reports from all the hospitals across the district, including Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex and District Headquarters Hospital, Nowshera.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mahsud has taken notice of the growing number of dengue cases, particularly in Nowshera tehsil.
A committee, headed by Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sher Zaman Dogar, has been formed to cope with the alarming situation.
Hospital Director Dr Kamran Hakeem Khan and Medical Director Dr Sardar Sohail briefed the Assistant Commissioner, saying that an isolation ward for dengue patients had been set up since the onset of the outbreak. So far, hundreds of patients have received treatment, with 50 requiring hospitalization. Many have since recovered, but nine patients remain under care. The directors assured that a team of 12 doctors is on duty in the dengue ward, and that efforts were being made to provide the best possible care to patients.
