Islamabad:Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Friday said the government was committed to making Pakistan greener and ensuring a sustainable and healthy environment for future generations.
“By planting more trees, we are not only improving Pakistan's environment but also positioning our nation to be among the leading environmentally conscious countries in the world,” the minister said during a tree plantation event on his ministry’s premises here.
Planning Secretary Awais Manzur Sumra, the additional secretary, and other officials were also present on the occasion. The organisers said the event was held as part of government's efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability.
They said the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, under its flagship initiative, Up-scaling of Green Pakistan Programme (UGPP), requested all ministries to hold tree plantation ceremonies on their respective premises. As part of the initiative, trees were planted within the planning and development ministry's grounds with the commitment to addressing climate challenges. Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasised the urgency of tackling environmental issues.
