ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the IGP Islamabad to probe a habeas corpus case and file a report on September 24.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq said the misuse of powers was at peak in the Police Department. This case is a classic example. According to the counsel for the petitioner, three persons were lifted from the SP Office on September 17. Police say they were arrested after registering a case on September 19 and their remand was taken the same day. Police have completed paper work to save themselves.
The CJ gave these remarks while hearing a petition filed by Hasnain Ali on Friday. IGP Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi appeared in the court. The court raised questions on the accountability system for police officers. “Where will you go if the public trust remains no more? And where will we go? I can show you how many applications come against your officers to me. I have no suo motu powers so I can do nothing on these applications. Your policemen are involved in illegal occupation and purchase of land. One SP purchases 2500 kanals and all come to protect him.” The court then adjourned the hearing till September 24.
