PESHAWAR: Over 95 cases of extortion have been registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the current year as a couple of grenade attacks were reported in recent weeks. Three hand-grenades were hurled in suspected cases of extortion in Hayatabad, Dir Colony and Kohat Road in the last one month. No casualty was reported in these attacks.

However, it spread terror among the locals once again.Sources in the KP Police said around 95 calls were received by the locals for extortion over the eight months.

The sources said a number of gangs involved in extortion calls to well-off people had been busted during the current year. Mostly Afghan SIMs are used for making calls in cases of extortion. A doctor, who was kidnapped for ransom from Sarband village near the provincial capital, was recovered safe and sound.
