LAHORE:Inspector General Police (IGP), Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar Friday said the construction of 22 smart police stations in densely populated areas of Lahore was under way.
According to the Punjab police spokesperson, the IGP said 10 smart police stations’ construction on government land alone will save over Rs20.8 million for the exchequer as police stations at Sanda, Millat Park, Gujjarpura, Kot Lakhpat, Islampura, Shalimar, Samanabad, Shafiqabad, Shad Bagh, and Johar Town are working on rented places.
The IGP said all smart police stations will operate under the Special Initiative Police Stations Protocol and SOPs. Currently, 99 police stations are being constructed in various districts and 39 smart police stations were near completion across the province.
Previously, the construction of one PS would cost Rs200 million to Rs250 million, but with modern technology smart PS is being built for around Rs60 million to Rs100 million. The IGP said three police stations were being built in Multan, two each in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rahimyar Khan, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot, and 1 each in Attock, Gujrat, Sahiwal, and Sheikhupura.
