A man shot and killed his sister and brother-in-law in a Orangi Town neighbourhood on Thursday for contracting freewill marriage. Meanwhile, another woman was killed in the name of ‘honour’ in Sohrab Goth.

The tragic incident in Orangi took place in Toori Bangash Colony within the limits of the Iqbal Market police station where a woman’s brother opened fire on her and her in-laws, killing her and her husband. One of their relatives was also injured in the incident.

Following the incident, police and rescue workers reached the location and transported the causalities to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced the couple dead and their relative was admitted for treatment.

The deceased couple was identified as 20-year-old Tahira and her 23-year-old husband Najam Khan. The injured person was identified as 50-year-old Zubair, son of Abdul Wahid.

Police said the injured person was the brother-in-law of Najam. Police said the suspect’s name was Mubashir Hussain, son of Hayat Hussain, who killed the couple because of their freewill marriage a month and a half ago.

The alleged murderer had called his sister and her husband to his home in Toori Bangash Colony under the pretext of a ‘Jirga’ and killed them. The suspect then surrendered himself to the police.

Separately, a woman was killed in a firing incident near the Super Highway within the limits of the Sohrab Goth police station.

Following the incident, police and rescue workers reached the crime scene and transported the casualty to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the deceased woman was identified as 26-year-old Baby, wife of Rafiq.

Citing initial investigations, police said the woman was killed apparently in the name of ‘honour’ at Noor Khan Goth on the Super Highway. Further investigations are under way.
